Blue Note Napa will offer a new outdoor stage and several new shows as part of Brian Culbertson’s Napa Valley Jazz Getaway, June 7 – 11, 2017 in the Napa Valley.
The debut of the Blue Note Napa Stage outdoors at the Opera House Plaza will present two shows in conjunction with the Napa Valley Jazz Getaway on Saturday, June 10 featuring Chase Huna and Morgan James, and Sunday, June 11 featuring Curtis Brooks and Cecil Ramirez. In addition, Blue Note Napa will host the Brian Culbertson Saturday Late Night Jam Session upstairs in the JaM Cellars Ballroom located at the Margrit Mondavi Theatre in the Napa Valley Opera House. Finally, the inaugural Blue Note Napa Gospel Brunch featuring The Jackie Tolbert Gospel Ensemble on Sunday, June 11 will premiere in the Blue Note Napa (downstairs in the Napa Valley Opera House) for a rousing kickoff to the final day of the festival.
“We are happy to be partnering with Brian Culbertson and presenting these shows as part of the Napa Valley Jazz Getaway,” said Ken Tesler, Blue Note Napa Managing Partner. “Brian is a good friend of the Blue Note and we are honored to join his world-class jazz festival in the Napa Valley.”
“After I played New Year’s Eve at the Blue Note Napa, I knew they had to be part of the festival,” Culbertson said. “The Blue Note is an iconic venue and we really couldn’t have the Getaway without playing a few times on their stages.”
Featured on the Blue Note Napa Stage outside at the Opera House Plaza on Saturday, June 10 at 2pm (gates at 1pm) are Chase Huna and Morgan James. Young artist Chase Huna is already a proven performer and songwriter having already worked with and performed alongside Mindy Abair, Michael Lington and many others. Huna’s debut single “On the Chase,” is produced by hit maker Steve Oliver, and is the lead off single from his upcoming CD release “On the Chase”. New York-based soul singer, songwriter, and Broadway chanteuse Morgan James’ full-length debut for Epic Records, “Hunter,” casts an unbreakable spell with her powerhouse voice, theatrical swing, and soulful poise. “Hunter” boasts powerful and personal renditions of Prince’s “Call My Name” (reached Top 15 at Urban AC radio and #1 most added) along with Hall & Oates’ “She’s Gone” and Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing In The Dark”. Morgan’s music videos have accumulated more than 45 million views and climbing. Morgan recently toured the US, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and is currently in the midst of writing her next album.
On Saturday evening, the Brian Culbertson Late Night Jam Session, hosted by vocalist/saxophonist Marqueal Jordan, begins at 9pm (doors at 7:45pm). Culbertson says, “For the first time, we’re holding a late night jam session! It’ll be held in the appropriately named JaM Cellars Ballroom at the Margrit Mondavi Theatre at The Napa Valley Opera House, the place where we held our very first Getaway. We’re excited to have Marqueal Jordan host this jam session, and I’ll be there along with my band and many other Getaway artists. We’ll have limited seats and tables on the sides and in the balcony, but they have removed all the theater seats so it’s a wide-open dance floor to get your party on! And when the Jam is over you’ll still have time to catch the end of the After Party at The Westin with your Platinum, Gold, or Silver Access Card.”
Performing at the Gospel Brunch in the Blue Note Napa on Sunday, June 11 at 11am (doors at 10am) is The Jackie Tolbert Gospel Ensemble featuring the powerful vocals of Jackie Tolbert. Tolbert has toured extensively around the world and has recently put out her first CD entitled “God Keeps His Promise”. Jackie lives in Oakland CA, where she is a member of the Market Street SDA Church.
