Napa Valley’s Trefethen Family Vineyards Vice President and third generation vintner Lorenzo Trefethen took first place yesterday at the prestigious Pirelli World Challenge Porsche GT Cup class in the No. 13 Trefethen Vineyards Porsche 911 GT Cup race car. This win is Lorenzo’s first in professional racing and comes at one of the most storied race tracks in North America, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, formerly known as Mosport in Ontario, Canada.
Lorenzo said, “This is a real thrill.” Trefethen dedicated this win to his good friend, Dan Fredinburg who died while climbing Mt. Everest the day of the terrible Nepal earthquake. “I know he’d be proud of what was accomplished here today.”
This season has been a big opportunity for Trefethen to begin his professional racing career against a field of many of the finest professional sports car drivers and on the best tracks in North America. He previously finished 3rd at the St. Petersburg Grand Prix event. Lorenzo Trefethen added the role of professional racecar driver for Miami, FL based ANSA Motorsports this year. He is competing in 10 races around the US and Canada, the family saw this as a fun way to take the winery on the road.
Like father like son…
Trefethen inherited his passion and learned a good bit of his skill from his father, Napa Valley Vintner John Trefethen who races in the US in the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy series. John is currently ranked #1 in the Platinum Masters class. Both Trefethens are looking forward to racing closer to home at the Sonoma Raceway this summer. John takes the track just after the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in his Porsche 911 for the GT3 Cup Trophy Series in June. Lorenzo returns August 28-30 with his Pirelli World Challenge competitors to race along with Indy Cars as part of the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma event.
