Live at Silo's - Gonzalo Bergara Quartet`
The all acoustic Gonzalo Bergara Quartet plays a modern variant of 1930's Django Reinhardt-inspired Gypsy Jazz. Composer and lead guitarist Bergara mixes cascades of arpeggios with the sounds of Paris and his native Argentina and is supported by an ace clarinetist and a honed rhythm section. Bergara is fiery and focused, while the hard-swinging band takes the audience for a ride. The Quartet was named Best Jazz Group In Los Angeles by Los Angeles Magazine, picked Django Reinhardt Performer Of The Year, and was an Editor's Pick in Guitar Player Magazine and are veterans of the jazz and pop world who have worked with artists as diverse as John Jorgenson, Strunz and Farah, Terry Gibbs, Joe Williams and Clark Terry to Moby and Barry Manilow.

Live at Silo's - The Charles Wheal Band
"Ever since leaving Mark Hummel's band in 2006 to focus on his own music, Charles Wheal has been making a name for himself as one of the top guitar players and singers on the scene today. With the release of his debut CD "The Greaseland Sessions" in 2009 (featuring long time Hummel bandmate Steve Wolf on bass), he made a clear statement that his music is a natural continuation of the traditions started by Charlie Christian and BB King, while still borrowing liberally from the more ensemble 'Chicago' sound. The Charles Wheal Band will get any crowd up and dancing, and keep them there all night long."

Five Styles of Chardonnay at Back Room Wines
These descriptions help only if you've experienced each and know what it is. Well, in an effort to help you understand a little more wine "lingo," Back Room Wines will pour you five Chardonnays, each a poster wine (if you will) for one of the classic Chardonnay descriptors. Taste these five Chardonnay styles: BUTTERY (the most popular!), TOASTY, TROPICAL, CRISP (can also call it TANGY), and MINERALLY (minerally, we admit, is a word created by wine lingo). Our Chardonnay line up is coming soon. Additional Information: Five Styles of Chardonnay tasting is on Friday, September 10. Come anytime from 5 to 8 P.M. for the tasting. No reservation necessary.

Napa Valley Wine Train Vintner's Lunch - Ramian Estate
Winemaker Brian Graham crafts the collective story of his vineyards - one chapter at a time. Formally educated about eonology and wine- making at the University of Bordeaux, Brian also worked and was mentored at Chateau Roquefort. He went on to further his studies at the Wine and Spirits Educational Trust in London, after which time he worked for a boutique winery in Burgundy named Domaine Serrigny - Jean-Pierre & Fils in Savigny-Les- Beaune. These two experiences gave him the foundation for creating balanced, terroir-driven wines. Join Brian on board The Napa Valley Wine Train for a memorable afternoon of delicious wine, paired artfully with Executive Chef Kelly Macdonald's superb cuisine, as you enjoy the fabulous vistas of the Napa Valley glide slowly by. Napa Valley Wine Train - Murder Mystery Dinner Theater
Once a year the world’s greatest detectives gather at the home of Julius Fox in Napa, but this year for the 10th anniversary they are gathering on the Napa Valley Wine Train. They swap stories, brag of their accomplishments and a few, I’m sorry to say, get drunk, engage in affairs, and behave in a most unseemly manner. Last year, Julius Fox wrote down the best of the members’ stories and had them published. The book, called “The Detectives’ Club,” was an immediate best seller. Under the terms of the contract, any of the eight detectives who are alive at midnight tonight will share in the royalties - $5,000,000. Those who are no longer among the living will receive nothing for their estate. Visit WineTrain.com or call +1.800.427.4124 for reservations.

Live at Silo's - Camaron Ochs
Camaron Ochs' debut album “Heartforward” (Jan 2010) was released in front of a sold-out audience at Red Devil Lounge in San Francisco. Just a month after the release, the record's first single "You Were Late" began spinning on San Francisco's KFOG, shortly followed by live appearances on Napa's KVYN and Pescadero's KPDO. Critics have acknowledged her as a "local gem" with a "velvet touch", applauding the record and commending its "pretty vocals, charming lyrics... Heartforward is classic singer/songwriter stuff." She was voted "Artist of the Month" by an SF Deli Magazine fan poll and has been featured in the SF Bay Guardian, East Bay Express, Lamorinda Weekly, San Jose Mercury News and more. She has played well-known stages all over the Western US such as The Venetian, Cafe Du Nord, and Crane's Hollywood Tavern.

Live at Silo's - Hurricane Sam & The Hotshots
With the rhythmic intensity of an entire band, Sam Rudin attacks and caresses the keyboard, romping through the whole range of 20th century American music. He can evoke the spirit of Fats Waller, Oscar Peterson, Mose Alison, and Jerry Lee Lewis...sometimes all at the same time. He is also a compelling vocalist whose rough-hewn voice conveys both drama and humor. And he is an exciting performer, whose enthusiasm on stage is as clear as his love for the blues, jazz, and country traditions from which his music comes. Sam has worked with all types of musicians, playing rock'n'roll with Chubby Checker, western swing with Back in the Saddle, classic blues with Frankie Lee, and slick pop-soul with SisterSledge. He has even worked with bluegrass great Frank Wakefield, who has proclaimed Sam to be the only true bluegrass piano player in the entire world. With his own band, Hurricane Sam and the Hotshots, he plays swing, blues, R&B, and funk. Joining Sam on this date will be Michael O'Neill (sax) Jimmy Hobson (drums) and Joshua Zucker (bass). All of these guys are world-class players whose consumate musicianship has filled their resumes with both local and national names.

All Jazzed Up: A Swinging Gala – Napa Valley Opera House Annual Fund-Raising Gala

Come all jazzed up for this annual Napa Valley Opera House fund-raising gala. In the shade of majestic oaks and redwoods, a lawn reception and outdoor concert with the legendary Ramsey Lewis Trio will be followed by a gourmet dinner in the historic Carriage House at Charles Krug Winery. Led by David Reynolds, the evening will conclude with a live auction that will offer twenty-five tantalizing travel lots and parties, including twelve days in Turkey, exploring Istanbul and Antalya, and sailing the Turquoise Coast on a private gulet.
Pianist-composer Ramsey Lewis has been called "The Great Performer," an accolade reflecting a diverse talent and brilliant style in which his classical training and gospel roots are coupled with a love for jazz. Although he tours with more than 25 symphony orchestras in the U.S. and Canada, and performs internationally in concert and at festivals, the master pianist performs primarily at home and abroad with his eponymous trio, featuring Larry Gray on bass and Leon Joyce on drums. Napa Valley Wine Train Vintner's Lunch - Swanson Vineyards
Swanson Vineyards is a family winery founded on a passion for evolving the existing standards of wine and food. In the 1950s, long before founding Swanson Vineyards, the Swanson family introduced the first lifestyle product, Swanson frozen dinners, which helped women get out of the kitchen and enjoy life. In 1985, at his 25th Stanford University reunion, W. Clarke Swanson, Jr. was inspired by a tip from a fraternity brother and successful vintner to purchase a parcel of vineyard land on the Oakville Cross Road in the heart of Napa Valley. Join Swanson's Winemaker Chris Phelps on board The Napa Valley Wine Train for a memorable afternoon of delicious wine, paired artfully with Executive Chef Kelly Macdonald's superb cuisine, as you enjoy the fabulous vistas of the Napa Valley glide slowly by. Live at Silo's - Mary Jenson
Dubbed “West-Coast Cool”, vocalist Mary Jenson returns to the stage at Silo’s Jazz Club, performing selections from her new CD in progress and favorites from her 2009 CD “Close Your Eyes”. Joined by a stellar cast of players led by pianist, producer, composer and arranger Frank Martin, Mary performs music that takes the jazz genre from traditional to funk-bop-drama. Jenson sings jazz, but doesn’t always fit the stereotype of what a “jazz singer” entails, and that’s a good thing. Her voice is far from a stereotype, so listen and see/hear if you agree. John Book - The Run-Off Groove (Apr 28, 2009) Halfway through the opening track of Mary Jenson’s inaugural CD, I knew this was a serious jazz singer who had something to sing about. By L. PIERCE CARSON - Napa Valley Register (Feb 25, 2010)

Grand Traditions Gala
Contact Joan Lockhart, E.D. ParentsCAN Phone 707 253-7444, ext. 100 Parents of the Year chosen for Grand Traditions Gala Parent Child Advocacy Network (ParentsCAN) announces that Shari and Garen Staglin of Staglin Vineyards, Rutherford, Ca. have been named “Parents of the Year, 2010,” and will be honored at this year’s Grand Traditions Gala to be held Friday Oct.1, 2010, at the Silverado Resort in Napa. The Staglins were chosen to be honored in 2010 because they understand the path families walk when a family member has mental illness. In 1990, their son Brandon was diagnosed with schizophrenia, which he described as having “lost half his self” in an instant. AS a result of their family’s traumatic experience, Mr and Mrs Staglin have been supportive over the years of other families who walk a similar path. Through their yearly event, Music for Mental Health the Staglins and Staglin Family Vineyards support mental health with millions of dollars for brain research. ParentsCAN, Napa County nonprofit organization was founded by parents in 2005 to support other parents whose child is diagnosed with life-changing disability and health needs such as mental illness. ParentsCAN exists to provide hope, information, and training to parents of children with significant needs in Napa County. Their support of families assures that families understand the disability issues, negotiate systems and become lifetime advocates for their family’s needs. This year’s annual Grand Traditions Gala, will be a special event, as ParentsCAN celebrates its fifth birthday as well. Executive Chef Peter Pahk of Silverado will orchestrate the gourmet appetizers, and dinner. Wines from several vineyards will be poured, and a short auction and fund-a-need will help fund ongoing ParentsCAN programs. Dance music will be provided by Volkr Strifler and his band. ParentsCAN recently moved their Resource Center to 1909 Jefferson to accommodate the increased numbers they serve. There is a disability library, and advocates are available to meet with individuals who visit, or call. Funding for the education and advocacy done by ParentsCAN is primarily through grants, and donations. ParentsCAN gives presentations to local service groups and prospective donors to find interested supporters. All services are free to families who ask for service. About 500 families are served each year, with peer to peer support and education. More families receive needed information through our newsletter and website. Follow us on Facebook (Parent Child Advocacy Network) and Twitter (parentscan). For more information about ParentsCAN, go to our website

Live at Silo's - TheLegend of Gram Parsons
A theatrical concert about the original cosmic cowboy, who lived fast, died young and left a charred corpse. Featuring Anders Drerup as Gram Parsons and Kelly Prescott as Emmylou Harris Gram Parsons was 26 when he died, overdosing on morphine and tequila, but he was already one of the most influential musicians in the history of rock and roll. His death — and the bizarre theft of his body by his road manager and its subsequent burning in the desert near Joshua Tree--turned Parsons’ life and music into legends. Grievous Angel: The Legend of Gram Parsons was inspired by producer/director Michael Bate’s March 1973 interview with the doomed singer in Boston. It was Parsons’ last recorded conversation.

Live at Silo's - The Eddie Duran Quartet & Stan Pappas on Vocals
Stan is a Sinatra tribute singer. He sings songs from the Tommy Dorsey days circa 1939, to the Columbia recordings of the late 40’s to early 50’s. From 1954 thru 1960 were the Capitol years. Great albums and many hit singles are from that era. Stan does many of those recordings also. In 1961 Sinatra formed his own record company called Reprise. And at the ripe age of fifty he got Sammy Davis, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Nelson Riddle, Count Basie and just about all of the popular recording artists of that era to work with him. Stan loves to sing songs from that period also. Stan has done Rat Pack Tributes, Frank and Sammy At The Sands, A Swingin’ Affair with Sue Albano, and many solo performances featuring Jon Simon at the piano and Steve Rubardt, the house piano player at the Sonoma Mission Inn, and the leader of the Top Cat Dance Band. Recently, he has been doing a Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe tribute with Diana Dawn. If you like Sinatra, Stan’s the man for your next social occasion
