Get ready to up your kitchen game with CIA at Copia, a Napa food-and-wine destination that combines prestigious cooking classes with mobile wine tasting bars, a culinary museum, one-stop gift shop, theater box office and an on-site Restaurant.
The new Culinary Institute of America opened in March of 2017 downtown on 500 First St. (near McKinstry Street). Those who visit will discover an experience never-seen-before. Families, couples and those passionate for cooking can easily spend the entire day in the state-of-art facility and experience a world of culinary and beyond.
The best way to begin your experience is with lunch at The Restaurant at CIA Copia. When you enter the main dining room you will instantly become inspired by the modern, yet rustic details and pleasant ambiance. An open kitchen floorplan is seen from all tables of the restaurant that correspondingly complement the prompt hospitality from the wait staff.
A Hanger steak tartine ($18) with rosy slices of beef drape over thick slices of grilled bread, slathered with bone marrow aioli and covered with dressed cress and pickled onions, is only one of the many main dishes served.
CIA has taken the concept of farm fresh cooking to a new level with their on-site garden which sources many of the Institutes ingredients. From the ground to the table you’ll find that your plates will dance with fresh basil, heirloom tomatoes, spinach and pomegranates.
After lunch, why not continue your afternoon with an interactive demonstration cooking class in their 72-seat Napa Valley Vintners Theater. CIA offers a wide range of cooking classes which includes: Hands-On Cooking & Baking Classes, Private Classes and Wine Tasting Classes. Those who attend will find themselves interacting with other cooking enthusiasts and prestigious chefs within the industry cooking up some of today’s sought-after food dishes.
Of course after class you must head over to the retail store where you will find a wide range of goods—from cookware, knives, and pottery by local artists, to a huge selection of cookbooks. The store also hosts book signings and demonstrations which can be found on their event calendar.
Debuting in 2018, CIA plans to add a number of opportunities to experience Culinary and Wine which includes hand-on cooking and baking classes, art collections and the Chuck Williams Culinary Arts Museum.
